I Got The News Today (IGTNT), which is one of the oldest continuous series on Daily Kos, provides members of this community a venue to pay their respects to those who have died as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, Operation Inherent Resolve, Operation Resolute Support, Operation Joint Guardian and Operation Octave Shield. The IGTNT title is a reminder that far too often the family of an active duty service member receives the terrible news that their beloved has died.
1st Lt. Joseph Trent Allbaugh
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel. 1st Lt. Joseph Trent Allbaugh, 24, from Folsom, California, died as the result of a non-combat-related incident, July 12, 2020, in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation. Allbaugh was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 108th ADA Brigade, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. ~ DoD News Release
Joseph Trent Allbaugh grew up in Folsom, California. After high school, Joe attended Vanguard University of Southern California. He graduated in 2018 with a degree in Psychology.
Following his graduation, Allbaugh received his commission as an Army Air Defense Artillery Officer through the Reserve Officer Training Corps.
Following his Basic Officer’s Leader Course at Fort Sill, OK, 1st Lt. Allbaugh reported to Fort Campbell, KY where he was assigned to Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment.
During this deployment to Afghanistan, Allbaugh was serving as Platoon Leader and as an Engagement Operations Cell Battle Captain.
Joseph Allbaugh was married to Ashley McKee of Placerville, California in December of 2018. Ashley is expecting their son, Ashton Joseph in September. Alyssa McKee, Ashley’s sister set up a Go Fund Me page to assist with expenses. Many friends and loved ones have donated and left loving comments and condolences.
On behalf of all Californians, Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom honor Army 1st Lt. Joseph T. Allbaugh, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Partner extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. In memorial, Governor Newsom ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol.

1st Lt. Allbaugh’s awards decorations include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
1st Lt. Joseph Allbaugh is survived by his wife, Ashley Allbaugh, and his parents, Larry and Laura Allbaugh.
