Please join us tonight in honoring Spc. Sean M. Walsh, 21, of San Jose, Calif., who died Nov. 16, in Khowst province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained after encountering indirect fire. Indirect fire is Army speak for an enemy mortar shell or a rocket that actually manages to hit a target.

Sean Walsh was assigned to the 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, Pittsburg, Calif. Sean was a peacekeeper, who thought he was on his way home to his family. I can't imagine the battle of the heart that he had to fight to go away, and leave his family behind. God must have had a plan for him Please welcome him home. Until eternity.

Sgt. Timothy D. Sayne, 31, of Reno, Nev., died Sept. 18 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

I don't think that depriving kos of ad revenue for a week will make him flinch or think twice. I really don't.

I do think, however, that anything that makes the community moderation process less transparent and less reliant upon TU's for hiding comments can't be good. Letting more people with less invested in this community "refer" comments to a great and mighty Oz, behind a curtain, who can ban by fiat, will make it easier to hide the reasons for a purge, and put banning in the hands of even fewer, rather than the hands of the many who have proven that they can be trusted with that function.

kos was pretty flip that he was wielding the "ban hammer" freely, "because he can". I didn't dig his attitude in that respect. You wouldn't punish a child without explaining why. "Because I can" was never enough for me.

I ain't a joiner but, for the reasons expressed above, and because I feel that the request deserves to be honored, for my own reasons, I feel compelled to honor a boycott, unless my IGTNT duties call first. That, I can't miss, even for a boycott.

Scribd, a website where users can post .pdf file copies of documents, is carrying what purports to be the first draft of the Libyan Transitional Council's effort at a Constitutional charter. I make no guarantees as to its authenticity, but the Tripoli Post says it's legit:

This document could have been written by a kossack, as it contains a lot of guarantees of personal and religious freedom and social justice for women. Who knows, maybe it was written by a kossack. Stranger things have happened!

It creates a state obligation for social security, a rough approximation of a First Amendment and, notably, no specific reference to a right to keep and bear arms. Based upon the pictures we are seeing from Tripoli, I guess that goes without saying.

Gallinger-Long was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

I remembered that quote by Izaak Walton while writing this diary, as my Dad used to tell me that, all the time. Certain skills and traits just can't be learned, like fishing, devotion to your Country and family, or just being good natured and always ready to flash a crooked smile, like that avid angler, Riley Gallinger-Long.

For the first time since 2002, Mt. Etna is erupting. Mt. Etna has been an active volcano for a half a miilion years. It most recently erupted in 1949, 1971, 1981, 1983 and 1991–1993. Past eruptions have subsided without much damage to the surrounding countryside. Will Sicily be that lucky this time?

While this type of natural disaster is actually fairly common, Italian seismologists are watching this eruption closely. Say a prayer.
